We celebrated Mez's 13th birthday last night with Ethiopian fare. She says 13 feels the same as 12, but she doesn't want to be a teenager because....in her words...."It's old!" Apparently, life according to Mez would mean Lisa is a granny and Dennis is ancient. She's been in our family for three years and has grown immensely in every way. She's approaching graduation from elementary school this spring, which she says will be bittersweet. Sunrise Elementary has been a sheltering cocoon in which she has learned under the tutelage of devoted teachers and a caring community. We couldn't have been blessed with a more nurturing environment for our girls in their transition to American life and academic culture.
With four teens now in the Brockman family, hormones are raging, opinions are always flying, our household is full of energy, and life with them is adventurous. Lisa marvels at how our teens are far more grounded than she ever was at their age. Grace. Grace. And more grace. It is a gift to have all this energy around us as we age into oblivion.
