I have heard it said that we live in one of the most incredible times in history. Half those that have ever lived are alive right now. The changes in technologies are dramatically enabling us to communicate in profound ways to audiences who formally were unreachable. I am told that organizations like ours are partnering with others in unprecedented ways to take the gospel to the world. It is amazing and humbling that you and I are alive to see and experience what is happening.
It has been many years since I was first directed to Jesus’ last commissioning words to those following him, but I am still stirred by them. Here they are as presented in Eugene Peterson’s The Message,
18-20Jesus, undeterred, went right ahead and gave his charge: “God authorized and commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age.” -Matthew 28:18-20
You and I are not responsible for the generations before us nor the ones that may follow, but we are given the choice to respond today to the commissioning with which Jesus charges us for the generation in which we live. We joined, along with our financial and prayer partners, the multiplying community of believers with Campus Crusade for Christ/Cru to help fulfill the Great Commission. My team put together a short (4:37 minutes:seconds) motion graphic that was designed to encourage our staff leaders at a recent leaders conference. You will see some of the amazing results. You may need a glossary to decipher some of the acronyms or labels we use. Here are some that you will encounter:
